Monistat for Hair Growth?

Screen grab from KENS-5 (story)

A vaginal cream for your hair?

It's been an Internet meme for the past couple of years - young women using Monistat to make their hair grow longer or reverse 'thinning.' A quick search of YouTube will land you a few dozen self-made videos - there are even "Monistat challenges" that these women run online. A San Antonio TV station even filed a report on this trend recently.

At this time, I would not recommend using this over-the-counter product for an unapproved use. There is no medical evidence available as to the product's efficacy - and there's also the potential for side effects. In some of the testimonial videos, there have been reports of headaches and soreness as a result of using this product on the scalp.

If you are concerned about hair loss, or any other hair problems, it's best to see a hair restoration specialist (I would highly recommend finding a doctor who is board-certified by the ABHRS). You can find a qualified doctor by visiting these websites: http://www.abhrs.com/abhrs-membership-directory or http://ishrs.org/content/finding-hair-restoration-doctor.
