Is Bradley Cooper's Hairline Receding?

Bradley Cooper is one of America's hottest actors these days, with Academy Award nominations for Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle, and a highly anticipated new film, American Sniper, on January 16th. While the future for Cooper seems limitless, there are signs age may be catching up with him a bit.

The 39-year old has a great head of hair, but over the past year has shown signs of recession in the temporal points. As a general rule, men have a 40% chance of male pattern hair loss in their 40s, so now would be the time for the Hollywood star to begin proactive treatments. It was rumored earlier this year that Cooper had already begun taking Propecia - if that's true, it's an appropriate step for him to take. However, the active ingredient in Propecia (finasteride) doesn't work in all men. Hopefully, Cooper is seeing a board-certified hair restoration physician who has used genetic testing to make sure his body will respond to finasteride treatments. However, he should also consider utilizing a multi-therapy approach (such as Formula 82M, Viviscal Pro and low level laser therapy) to produce the best results.

Bradley Cooper Reportedly Taking Propecia

According to reports, Oscar-nominee Bradley Cooper is allegedly taking Propecia to combat the early signs of hair loss. Cooper, 39, has become a popular leading man in Hollywood over the past few years, so it wouldn't surprise me that he would take preventative measures to maintain his leading man looks. As he approaches 40, he faces a 40 percent chance of hair loss.

While more celebrities and athletes are opening up about their experience with hair transplants, it is still less common for them to discuss their Propecia use, but this doesn't mean it isn't widely used in Hollywood! I would guess that more than a few of Hollywood's leading men are taking advantage of Propecia, as well as the other preventative measures to protect their hairlines.

If the rumors are true, good for Cooper for taking preventative action against hair loss. If not, it may not be a bad idea to talk to a hair restoration physician about his options.

New Survey: Best Celebrity Facial Hair

Hugh Jackman might not have won the Best Actor statue at last week's Oscars, but he has a new title he can be proud of: sexiest celebrity with facial hair. Jackman was awarded the honor by a new survey conducted by the Crown Clinic in Manchester. Jackman bested fellow Oscar nominee Bradley Cooper for the top spot, Cooper came in second.

Rounding out the top five were David Beckham, George Clooney and Ben Affleck. Meanwhile, Brad Pitt was named the celebrity with the least sexy stubble.

Best Celebrity Facial Hair

Men's Fitness recently ranked celebrities with the best facial hair, where Hollywood A-lister Ryan Gosling came out on top for his 70s inspired mustache. Fellow heartthrob Jake Gyllenhaal came in second for his mountain man beard. Rounding out the top three is Oscar hopeful Bradley Cooper who has perfected the everyday scruff.

Oscar Nominations - Best & Worst for Hair

This year's Oscar nominations are in (see this slideshow) - and while it's anyone's guess which Hollywood star will win the coveted Best Actor/Actress and Best Supporting awards this year, it's a bit easier to tell who's winning on the hair front. Many of this year's nominees have more than just other actors to contend with - they've got serious follicle troubles too.

Who's got the best hair?

Out of this year's nominees, I have to say, I'm most impressed by Denzel Washington, 58 (Best Actor nominee, "Flight"). His air defies his age and has been virtually unchanged for more than a decade. No hairpieces for him - he just has strong genetics on his side.

Tied for second are Robert De Niro and Christoph Waltz.

At 69, De Niro (Best Supporting Actor, "Silver Linings"), is definitely beating the odds - and, while he does show temporal recession, graying and general thinning, overall the quality of his hairline is superb for his age group.

Christoph Waltz, 56 (Best Supporting Actor, "Django Unlimited"), is another aging star who's hairline is still flourishing. He too shows moderate temporal recession and thinning, but not bad for his age.

Both De Niro and Waltz could still benefit, however, from treatments like Rogaine, Propecia and low level laser therapy.

Who's in trouble?

I've written about Joaquin Phoenix (Best Actor, "The Master") before and his hair line continues to recess. At 38, Phoenix would be wise to get started soon on preventative treatments to avoid the aging effects that more substantial hair loss are sure to bring.

Two other stars that should consider preventative treatments are Bradley Cooper, 38 (Best Actor, "Silver Linings Playbook"), and Hugh Jackman, 44 (Best Actor, "Les Miserables"). While neither is yet severely thinning, they both show signs of broad temporal point recession, a higher hair line, etc.

Phillip Seymour Hoffman, 45 (Best Supporting Actor, "The Master"), would also be well-advised to begin a treatment program.

Rounding out the list is Tommy Lee Jones, 66 (Best Supporting Actor, "Lincoln"), and Alan Arkin, 78 (Best Supporting Actor, "Argo"). Although Arkin is no longer at a point to restore his hair, Jones' hair loss could still benefit from NeoGraft FUE hair transplantation - as advanced as the hair loss is.

Overall, this year's stars are a mixed bag when it comes to hair loss - hopefully more of them will begin using proven restorative treatments.

Recession Alert: Bradley Cooper

Good news for men everywhere, even with a receding hairline you can be named People magazine's sexiest man alive, just look at this year's winner Bradley Cooper.

In recent photos of the Hangover star, 36, you can see early signs of temporal recession, which isn't at all uncommon for a man his age. Thirty percent of men in their 30s experience hair loss and the number increases to 40 percent as men enter their 40s. From the photos, it appears that Cooper is Norwood Class II, which means that while his hairline is maturing, typical of an adult hairline, he has yet to see any frontal balding. He is also fortunate to have an otherwise full head of hair.

Considering his resume now includes the sexiest man alive title, Cooper might want to consider a proactive hair regimen of FDA-approved Propecia or Rogaine, which could help him avoid any further recession. He would hardly be the first actor to take action against hair loss, more celebrities are investing in hair restoration than ever before. New technology and non-invasive procedures are selling points for many actors looking to enhance their looks discreetly.
