New Research: Why Hair Goes Grey

While George Clooney has fully embraced his role as a silver fox, that isn't the case with millions of men and women who go to great lengths to keep those pesky grey hairs away.

But new research could hold the key to slowing, or even preventing grey hairs, in the future that is. The research, which was published in Nature Communications, has discovered the first gene link to greying hair. The gene, IRF4 was known to affect color, but the research found that it also plays a unique role in the transition to grey.

More research will have to be conducted, but this news certainly has the potential to lead to a decrease in the number of silver foxes in the future.

Huffington Post - 9 Stars Who Actually Look Better With Gray Hair

Huffington Post recently did a fun slideshow, highlighting 9 stars who actually look better with gray hair. George Clooney of course made the cut, he is joined by John Stewart, Hugh Grant, Helen Mirren, and others, who have went against Hollywood standards and opted to age naturally, and it has clearly worked for them.

You can see the full slideshow, here

Another thing to notice, specifically with the men on the list, is how many of them seem to be beating the odds against hair loss. By the age of 50, men have a 50% chance of losing their hair, so to see such full hairlines is quite an impressive accomplishment!

What's George Clooney's Secret?

George Clooney's new sci-fi film "Tomorrowland" hits theaters later this month, but what's more exciting than the CGI special effects is the actor's hairline. At 54, his hair looks better than many men half his age. How does he do it?

There's a good chance Clooney is using a multi-therapy regimen to stave off hair loss and boost the overall health and quality of his hair. For a man his age, Propecia combined with low level laser therapy, nutritionals like Viviscal and Formula 82M would do the trick. Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, therapy would also be advised.

How Does George Clooney Do It?

At 52 years old, George Clooney continues to keep his remarkably full hairline. Which leaves many asking, how does he do it? As most people know, the hair loss risk increases with age. But, specifically, at his age, Mr. Clooney is defying a nearly 50-percent chance of hair loss! Again, how does he do it?

It's my guess that Mr. Clooney has taken a very proactive approach in protecting his hairline over the last 10 to 20 years, and probably uses some type of preventative treatment - like FDA approved Propecia. I also wouldn't be surprised if he's used Rogaine from time to time (although treatment should be consistent to be effective) and low level laser therapy.

Just a hunch, but hair as good as his usually requires medical intervention. But will it last forever? Not without medical treatments like the ones I described above. Hair loss today is a treatable condition but proactive treatment and early detections are key to achieving optimal results!

According to a new TIME article, both Gillette and Schick have recently reported that their razor sales are down, way down. In fact, market research predicts shaving products will lose their hold in the male grooming market for the first time ever this year.
And if you need more evidence of beards making a comeback, facial hair transplants are on the rise! Yes, you read that right. Some men are willing to take serious measures to get that scruffy look.

If you aren't blessed with enviable facial hair, a facial hair transplant might be just what you are looking for to restore or enhance areas of facial hair which are lacking. To learn more, click here

Hugh Jackman might not have won the Best Actor statue at last week's Oscars, but he has a new title he can be proud of: sexiest celebrity with facial hair. Jackman was awarded the honor by a new survey conducted by the Crown Clinic in Manchester. Jackman bested fellow Oscar nominee Bradley Cooper for the top spot, Cooper came in second.

Rounding out the top five were David Beckham, George Clooney and Ben Affleck. Meanwhile, Brad Pitt was named the celebrity with the least sexy stubble.
