Heartbreak Hair Loss for Kristen Stewart?

Is Kristen Stewart suffering from heartbreak hair loss?

New photos of Stewart show the young actress, 23, with noticeably thinning hair, with many attributing the hair loss as a result of months of stress following her public breakup.

So can stress really cause you to lose your hair? While we all know stress is bad for your health, many people don't realize the impact it can have on our hair. From the photos, it appears Stewart is in fact seeing some thinning, and is most likely suffering from temporary hair loss known as telogen effluvium.

Stress alone doesn't cause permanent hair loss, but it commonly contributes to temporary hair loss in both men and women. When the body goes into a state of shock, from for example extreme stress, the hair goes into a resting state of the hair growth cycle prematurely, resulting in sudden hair loss. This type of hair loss is often triggered by extreme stress associated with pregnancy, death of a loved one, surgery, serious illness or, according to one study, divorce.

The good news is, this type of hair loss can usually be reversed by reducing your stress. However if you want to speed up the hair recovery process, you may also want to consider a regimen of low level laser therapy and a vitamin supplement like Viviscal to help stimulate healthy hair growth.

Maureen Nolan: My Hair Fell Out During Menopause

Everyone expects hot flashes and mood swings to occur during "the change," but did you know that many women also experience hair loss and thinning during and after this period?

Maureen Nolan, of the 80s pop group The Nolans, was recently interviewed about her experience with hair loss during menopause.

‘I felt depressed. I was getting old and now my hair, which had been thick and shiny, was thinning and falling out,’ she told the reporter. While the experience of hair loss can be traumatic for women, it is quite common, especially during menopause. More than 40 percent of women experience hair loss and thinning during menopause, some more severe others.

Loss of both progesterone and estrogen, and increases in testosterone during menopause is thought to cause hair loss.

While hair loss during menopause can be part of the process, it is always good to see a doctor if you are experiencing hair loss or thinning as they can be a symptom of other health problems.

There are many treatment options tailored for women - but early detection is key for optimal results, so if you have questions or concerns, don't wait to call a hair restoration physician.

Laser Therapy Offers Hope for Women

There is a new FDA-treatment for hair loss that proves a hat can do more than hide your thinning hair.

The first at-home device of its kind, the HairMax LaserComb, offers patients a discreet and non-invasive treatment option, which can be easily worked into their daily routine.
The HairMax isn't the only product using lasers that is helping women fight hair loss. The LaserCap, a device embedded with over 220 laser diodes, simply fits into any hat, which when put on, gives patients complete coverage of their scalp.

The LaserCap is unique because it doesn't require the patient to stand in front of a mirror manually 'combing' with a laser device. Treatment simply consists of wearing the hat for 15 minutes, which can easily be combined with exercise, work, or even grocery shopping.

Low Level Laser Therapy devices have been approved by the FDA for treating hair loss and there are numerous other products out on the market.
As with any treatment, there are limitations to what laser therapy can do. If hair follicles are dead and gone and there's no hair production, you aren't likely to see much improvement.

Viviscal is "Must Have" for Reese Witherspoon

Actress Reese Witherspoon recently admitted one of her beauty secrets - Viviscal, calling the hair vitamin a "must have," and credits it for keeping her hair healthy and shiny.

Reese isn't the only celebrity using Viviscal. Finola Hughes recently announced she too uses Viviscal to help fight early signs of balding. And she isn't alone, nearly 40 million women in America are suffering from hair loss or thinning, a process that can be particularly devastating for females.

While there are numerous over the counter options out there, I prefer Viviscal Pro, a vitamin supplement, which can only be prescribed by a physician.

The bottom line is, the best thing you can do for your hair is preventative care, and Viviscal is a simple and effective way to keep your hair healthy.

Time for Jon Cryer to Address Hair Loss?

With Two and a Half Men on a temporary hiatus, Jon Cryer might want to think about using the time off to address his thinning hair.

The actor, 45, is experiencing thinning across his hairline and some recession in the temporal region. While he could benefit from a regular regimen of Rogaine, Low Level Laser Therapy would help him strengthen and regrow his thinning hair.

But if Jon really wants to make the most of his unexpected time off, he might want to consider a follicular-unit extraction hair transplant with NeoGraft. The non-invasive procedure is common among actors as it leaves no linear scarring and there is little downtime after the procedure.

LaserCap Offers Discreet Treatment for Hair Loss

There is a new treatment for hair loss that proves a hat can do more than hide your thinning hair.

The first device of its kind, LaserCap offers patients a discreet and non-invasive treatment option, which can be easily worked into their daily routine. The laser, embedded with over 220 laser diodes, simply fits into any hat, which when put on, gives patients complete coverage of their scalp.

Low Level Laser Therapy devices have been approved by the FDA for treating hair loss and there are numerous other products out on the market. These include the Erchonia THL-1, Sunetics Laser Brush and the HairMax LaserComb.
As with any treatment, there are limitations to what laser therapy can do. If hair follicles are dead and gone and there's no hair production, you aren't likely to see much improvement.

Latisse for Hair Loss

There is new hope for men and women faced with thinning hair, Latisse, the same drug that has been proven effective in growing thicker, longer, darker eyelashes.

Latisse is already FDA approved to grow eyelashes, but Allergan recently began Phase 1 clinical trials to use it on male and female pattern hair loss as well. If it succeeds, it will be only the second topical treatment to receive FDA approval for hair loss (the other is Rogaine).

Last year I began prescribing Latisse for off-label use on the scalp - and have already begun seeing some promising results. Latisse isn't going to regrow hair on a bald scalp but it can help tool in preventing hair loss.

Carey Mulligan's Hair Loss Woes

Carey Mulligan is experiencing thinning hair due to the stress bleaching and changing hairstyles has caused over the past few years.

According to British newspaper The Daily Mail, the 25-year old actress is reportedly taking a vitamin supplement to help accelerate the hair growth process. Hair vitamins, such as Viviscal, can aid those suffering from hair loss or thinning in achieving stronger, healthier hair.

However, if Carey wants to optimize her results, which as a young actress I'm sure she does, I would recommend combining the supplement with a regimen of Low Level Laser Therapy which is known to stimulate growth and help create thicker, fuller, healthier hair.
