Postpartum Hair Loss Watch: Chrissy Teigen

Chrissy Teigen recently gave birth to a baby girl - but now that she's in the postpartum phase, she could start to see some associated hair loss.

Postpartum hair loss is relatively common - but don't worry, it isn't permanent. The medical community believes it could be triggered by the hormonal fluctuations that occur during this period. While pregnant, women see a surge in their estrogen and progesterone levels (which is why women have such great hair when pregnant) - and after the baby is born, these levels return to the pre-pregnancy level. It is this sudden drop-off in hormone levels that causes the hair follicles to go into short-term shock.

As a result, shedding is quite common in the weeks, and months, following the delivery.

Chrissy may not experience postpartum hair loss - but if she does, I hope her doctors will tell her not to worry. Postpartum hair loss is normal, temporary, and shouldn't be a problem. If she does experience excessive thinning and wants to speed up the hair recovery process, she may want to consider a regimen of low level laser therapy and a vitamin supplement like Viviscal to help stimulate healthy hair growth.

Postpartum Hair Loss Watch: Elsa Pataky

Actress Elsa Pataky is looking great just three weeks after giving birth to twins - but now that she's in the postpartum phase, she could start to see some associated hair loss.

Divorce Stress Causing Khloe Kardashian to Lose Her Hair?

As if Khloe Kardashian's public divorce drama wasn't already hard enough, new photos suggest the reality star may be seeing signs of hair loss, which some are attributing to divorce stress.

While it may seem strange that divorce can lead to hair loss, studies have found that it can in fact trigger hair loss in women. One study in particular found that, genetics aside, marital status is the next strongest predictor of hair loss in women. Stress alone doesn't cause permanent hair loss, but it commonly contributes to temporary hair loss, called telogen effluvium, in both men and women. The good news is, this type of hair loss can usually be reversed by reducing your stress.

Khloe's locks may very well be feeling the effects of her divorce, but I have a feeling her frequent use of extensions is also a factor in her hair troubles. As I've mentioned countless times, hair extensions are actually extremely harmful to the hair follicles. Because of the excess weight and pulling, hair extensions, when worn too much, can lead to a type of hair loss called "traction alopecia."

Whatever is behind her hair loss, if she wants to speed up the hair recovery process, she may also want to consider a regimen of low level laser therapy and a vitamin supplement like Viviscal to help stimulate healthy hair growth.

Christie Brinkley's Anti-Aging Hair Secret

Forget wrinkles, it could be your hair that betrays your age, or, in Christie Brinkley's case, helps keep you looking young!

The 59-year old supermodel still looks great, and at a recent launch for her new Hair2Wear collection in New York City, she let her fans in on a little secret - she wears 16-inch clip-in hair extensions almost every day. Brinkley said she uses the hair pieces to add body and highlights to her thinning locks, which instantly reverses the signs of aging hair.

But while Brinkley's hair looks great today, the frequent use of extensions can put your hair at risk of serious damage. Hair extensions are actually extremely harmful to the hair follicles. Because of the excess weight and pulling, hair extensions, when worn too much, can lead to a type of hair loss called "traction alopecia." Traction alopecia is a form of "scarring alopecia" and characterized by an obliteration of the hair follicles. Hair transplantation is the most effective way to reverse this condition.

If you are a regular user of hair extensions, weaves, braids or wigs that attach to the hair, your hair follicles are in danger of permanent damage.

If your hair is suffering from signs of aging, which can include unruly grays, dryness, lackluster color, thinning, breakage, split ends, and frizz, there are healthier ways to address the issue. For starters, there are a number of hair super-foods that can boost your strands - salmon, which is loaded with omega-3 fatty acid, dark  green vegetables for vitamins A and C, and nuts, which are a terrific source of zinc. In addition to a healthy diet, low level laser ‘combs,’ nutritional supplements like Viviscal and biotin, and prostaglandin analogs can all boost the vitality of your hair.

Is Alec Baldwin's Hairline Recession-Proof?

Alec Baldwin's new MSNBC show debuts soon, and I can't help but notice how well the actor's hairline is holding up at age 55.

So how does he do it?

Although Baldwin does have some mild recession in the temporal points, overall his hair is in remarkable shape. By the age of 50, most men will experience noticeable hair loss. This raises the question, is it his genes or preventive treatments? I wouldn't put it past the actor to have started preventive treatments early on - the most likely candidates are Propecia and Rogaine. Although low level laser therapy and Viviscal are also possible.

Whatever he's doing, it's definitely working. If he sticks to a multi-therapy approach, he could still have this strong, full hairline 10 years from now.

Heartbreak Hair Loss for Kristen Stewart?

Is Kristen Stewart suffering from heartbreak hair loss?

New photos of Stewart show the young actress, 23, with noticeably thinning hair, with many attributing the hair loss as a result of months of stress following her public breakup.

So can stress really cause you to lose your hair? While we all know stress is bad for your health, many people don't realize the impact it can have on our hair. From the photos, it appears Stewart is in fact seeing some thinning, and is most likely suffering from temporary hair loss known as telogen effluvium.

Stress alone doesn't cause permanent hair loss, but it commonly contributes to temporary hair loss in both men and women. When the body goes into a state of shock, from for example extreme stress, the hair goes into a resting state of the hair growth cycle prematurely, resulting in sudden hair loss. This type of hair loss is often triggered by extreme stress associated with pregnancy, death of a loved one, surgery, serious illness or, according to one study, divorce.

The good news is, this type of hair loss can usually be reversed by reducing your stress. However if you want to speed up the hair recovery process, you may also want to consider a regimen of low level laser therapy and a vitamin supplement like Viviscal to help stimulate healthy hair growth.

January Jones Admits Hair Loss

Mad Men's January Jones is the latest starlet to admit she is suffering from hair loss, saying recently, "I have been every color and now my hair is falling out in clumps. I’m going to have to shave it off and wear a wig." Check it out on ABC News.

While the news may seem surprising, she joins others Hollywood beauties, including Jennifer Aniston, Lady Gaga, Carey Mulligan, Selma Blair, Lindsay Lohan,Tyra Banks, and Serena Williams, who have all experienced similar struggles with hair loss or thinning.

January, 35, has become known as a chameleon in Hollywood for her ever-changing hair color, behavior the star now attributes to her hair loss. While this kind of routine is no doubt harmful to hair, there are options available that can help her grow healthier hair.

Hair vitamins, such as Viviscal, can aid those suffering from hair loss or thinning in achieving stronger, healthier hair. However, if January wants to optimize her results, which as a young star I'm sure she does, I would recommend combining the supplement with a regimen of Low Level Laser Therapy which is known to stimulate growth and help create thicker, fuller, healthier hair.

Hillary Clinton's Hair Beating the Odds

Earlier this month, Barbara Walters interviewed Hillary Clinton about her political future - and one of the topics that came up: her hair. The 65-year old Secretary of State claims to not use hair dressers and tries to keep her hairdo as simple as possible.

What impresses me the most, however, is the quality and density of her hair for a woman in her 60s. After menopause, it's common for female pattern hair loss and more minor 'thinning' to kick in in most women. Loss of hair volume on the crown, recession in the temporal points, all of these are common in post-menopausal women.

That's why Mrs. Clinton's hairline is quite remarkable. Although I've never treated her, I suspect she might be taking dietary supplements to boost the health of her follicles. Or she could just have really good genes.

I'd advise the majority of women over age 40 to take dietary supplements that add to their follicle health. One scientifically tested product that I recommend to clients is Viviscal. Other options for women with thinning hair: Rogaine For Women, Latisse, Low Level Laser Therapy, and off-label options like finasteride, dutasteride, etc. However, it's important to always consult with a qualified hair restoration specialist first - make sure he or she is board-certified with the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery.

Kate Hudson Talks Postpartum Hair Loss

Actress Kate Hudson recently gave birth to a baby boy and is opening up about her postpartum hair loss in a new Redbook interview.

Postpartum hair loss is relatively common - but she doesn't need to worry, it isn't permanent. The medical community believes the hair loss could be triggered by the hormonal fluctuations that occur during this period. While pregnant, women see a surge in their estrogen and progesterone levels (which is why women have such great hair when pregnant) - and after the baby is born, these levels return to the pre-pregnancy level. As a result, shedding is quite common in the weeks following the delivery. But the bottom line is, postpartum hair loss is normal, temporary, and shouldn't be a problem or a cause for major concern.

But, if is she wants to speed up the hair recovery process, she may want to consider a regimen of low level laser therapy and a vitamin supplement like Viviscal to help stimulate healthy hair growth.

Anna Kendrick Opens Up About Hair Loss

Rising star Anna Kendrick, 27, recently opened up about the stress she felt during the 2010 awards season, saying it got so intense it caused her to lose her hair.

So did stress really cause her to lose her hair? Stress alone doesn't cause permanent hair loss, but it commonly contributes to temporary hair loss in both men and women. When the body goes into a state of shock, from for example extreme stress, the hair goes into a resting state of the hair growth cycle prematurely, resulting in sudden hair loss. This type of hair loss is often triggered by extreme stress associated with pregnancy, death of a loved one, surgery, serious illness or, according to  recent studies, divorce.

The good news is, this type of hair loss can usually be reversed by reducing your stress, or getting through awards season as the case may be. While it appears that Anna's locks have recovered, there are ways to speed up the hair recovery process.  Low Level Laser Therapy and a vitamin supplement like Viviscal are known ways to help stimulate healthy hair growth, a healthy diet is also the easiest way to help fuel healthy hair growth.

Is Lindsay Lohan Losing Her Hair?

Is the stress of falling in and out of the spotlight causing Lindsay Lohan to lose her hair? The troubled star was recently photographed with what appears to be a thinning patch of hair.

From the photo, you can see the 26-year old has what appears to be a bald spot, a telling sign that she is likely suffering from a condition called traction alopecia. Lohan, who is said to be a frequent user of hair extensions, now appears to be dealing with the consequences of the pulling, styling and abuse her follicles have suffered over the years.

Traction Alopecia is common among people who wear tight braids, those who use hair extensions over a long period of time, attach wigs or weaves with glue/clips/tape, or those who suffer from trichotillomania (hair-pulling disease), traction alopecia is a result of the chronic tension or pulling on the follicles causing irreparable damage. The definitive cure is hair transplantation which permanently replaces the follicles into the bald skin. However, without a change in hair-care habits, the transplanted hair is also at risk.

In addition to abuse from styling, other lifestyle factors such as poor nutrition and smoking can have a negative impact on your hair. Considering Lohan's young age, and her desire to regain her place in the spotlight, I'd recommend she start taking care of her hair now. The first step would be to quit smoking. Then I'd suggest a nutritional supplement like Viviscal, which can help improve hair quality. She could also benefit from a regimen of low level laser therapy to stimulate healthy hair growth.

Real Housewife Jill Zarin Partners with Viviscal

Nearly 40 million women in America suffer from hair loss or thinning, a process that can be particularly devastating for females. But despite how common the condition is among women, it is still often seen as a taboo subject - something Bravo TV personality and former Real Housewife Jill Zarin is trying to change.

Zarin has partnered with Viviscal natural hair supplements to help raise awareness on hair loss and encourage women to talk openly about the condition. She joins Reese Witherspoon, Finola Hughes, and Carey Mulligan, and fellow Bravo star Tabatha Coffey who have all endorsed Viviscal, which they credit to helping keep their hair full and healthy.

Viviscal nutritional supplements are clinically proven and tested as an effective tool to improve hair quality and stimulate healthy hair growth. While Viviscal and other nutritional supplements are available over the counter, I recommend Viviscal Pro to my patients, it is a stronger version of the vitamin supplements, which can only be prescribed by a physician. Most patients say they notice an improvement in hair quality and texture within about 6 months of starting the regimen.

The bottom line is, one of the best things you can do for your hair is preventative care, and Viviscal is a simple and effective way to help keep your hair healthy.

Jennifer Aniston: Extensions Ruined My Hair

Jennifer Aniston caused a stir earlier this year when she chopped her famous golden locks, but a new interview with InStyle magazine reveals there was more to the decision than a simple restyle.

It appears even the Hollywood starlet wasn't immune from the damage that can be caused by extreme hair styling.

Aniston's frequent use of hair extensions were taking their toll on her hair, causing it to become "thinned out." She explained her decision to the magazine: "The real reason I cut my hair? My real hair was getting thinned out again from all the extensions. It was starting to look fake."

Aniston is hardly the first celebrity to be faced with thinning hair after extensions and extreme styling, but the good news is, the damage is reversible. As long as she doesn't go back to her old habits, her hair should grow back healthy and revived. But, if is she wants to speed up the hair recovery process, as I'm sure she does, she may want to consider a regimen of low level laser therapy and a vitamin supplement like Viviscal to help stimulate healthy hair growth.

Did Stress Cause Tyra Banks to Lose Her Hair?

Tyra Banks, who recently released a new book, told the Wall Street Journal that the experience was so stressful it caused some of her hair to fall out.

While Tyra was quoted saying she "got a little alopecia" from the writing, what she was referring to was temporary hair loss known as telogen effluvium. Alopecia is a generic term that usually describes androgenetic alopecia, or more commonly, male/female pattern hair loss, a more serious condition that requires medical treatment. Alopecia can also refer to alopecia areata/universalis/totalis, which are also immune disorders to which there is no treatment yet.

Stress alone doesn't cause permanent hair loss, but it commonly contributes to temporary hair loss in both men and women. When the body goes into a state of shock, from for example extreme stress, the hair goes into a resting state of the hair growth cycle prematurely, resulting in sudden hair loss. This type of hair loss is often triggered by extreme stress associated with pregnancy, death of a loved one, surgery, serious illness or, according to a recent study, divorce.

New Research Links Divorce to Hair Loss in Women

If divorce wasn't already hard enough, a new study suggests it can also trigger hair loss in women. The research found that, genetics aside, marital status is the next strongest predictor of midline hair loss in women, noting that the loss of a spouse (through either divorce or death) raises the risk for thinning hair above that of married or single women. But marital status isn't the only influencing lifestyle factor the research uncovered, sun exposure, excessive drinking and/or smoking also appear to raise the risk of hair loss in women.

The study, which examined 84 female identical twins, found those who were divorced or widowed exhibited more hair loss than married women. In addition, excessive alcohol consumption led to higher levels of female hair loss along the front of the head. Heavy smoking was a significant contributor to female hair loss in the temple area. However, women who drank moderately - two alcoholic beverages a week - experienced significantly less temporal hair loss than their twin.

The research was presented recently at the American Society of Plastic Surgeons annual conference.

While these findings may seen surprising to some, it confirms what experts already know, that stress and other lifestyle choices can impact how and when we lose our hair.

More than half of women over 40 will experience hair loss, but thanks to medical advances and new technology, hair loss is now a treatable condition. There are special treatments available for women, such as FDA-approved Rogaine For Women, vitamin supplements, such as Viviscal, Low Level Laser Therapy, micro-surgical hair transplants and even Latisse, the celebrity eyelash drug.

The bottom line is, hair loss can be treated - but early detection is key for optimal results, so if you have questions or concerns, don't wait to call a board-certified hair restoration physician.

Bravo's Tabatha Coffey Helping to Spread Awareness on Hair Loss

Nearly 40 million women in America suffer from hair loss or thinning, a process that can be particularly devastating for females. But despite how common the condition is among women, it is still often seen as a taboo subject - something Bravo TV personality Tabatha Coffey has set out to change.

The Tabatha's Salon Takeover star has partnered with Viviscal natural hair supplements to help raise awareness on hair loss and encourage women to talk openly about the condition. She joins Reese Witherspoon, Finola Hughes, and Carey Mulligan, who have all endorsed Viviscal, which they credit to helping keep their hair full and healthy.

Kat Von D Reportedly Losing Her Hair

The Daily Mail is reporting that LA Ink Star Kat Von D is losing her hair. Constant dyeing and styling, combined with the stress of her recent breakup and cancellation of her tv show, have been named among the reasons behind the 29-year old's hair woes.

Kat has reportedly been wearing wigs and hair extensions to cover up the bald and thinning patches. While it is true that extreme styling can be harmful and damaging to the hair follicles, it doesn't result in hair loss.

While her beauty routines and stress levels may not be helping, if Kat is really losing her hair, there is likely another reason behind it. Nearly two-thirds of women face hair loss at some point in their life. The causes of hair loss in women can vary from heredity, hormones, diet,  certain medications to an underlying medical condition.

Whatever is behind Kat's hair loss, there is good news, there are options available that can help her grow healthier hair. Hair vitamins, such as Viviscal, which is endorsed by such stars as Finola Hughes and Reese Witherspoon, can aid those suffering from hair loss or thinning in achieving stronger, healthier hair.

However, if Kat wants to optimize her results, which as a young star I'm sure she does, I would recommend combining the supplement with a regimen of Low Level Laser Therapy which is known to stimulate growth and help create thicker, fuller, healthier hair.

Celebrity Hairstylists Recommend Viviscal

Reese Witherspoon, Fiola Hughes, and Carey Mulligan have all admitted to using Viviscal, a vitamin supplement to help keep their hair healthy.

Viviscal nutritional supplements are clinically proven as an effective tool to help women and men fishing thinning and unhealthy hair.

Now, celebrity stylists are publicly endorsing the product too. Celebrity stylist Guido Palau recommends a six-month course of Viviscal. "I've known loads of people who have used it, and they've all said it's the only thing that helped regenerate their hair."

Another celebrity hairstylist, Harry Josh, also suggested it to several of his clients: "I've recommended it to everyone at one point or another – Gisele, Cameron, Demi – whether they wanted to get over a haircut they didn't like or wanted longer hair faster."

While there are numerous over the counter options out there, I prefer Viviscal Pro, a vitamin supplement, which can only be prescribed by a physician.

The bottom line is, the best thing you can do for your hair is preventative care, and Viviscal is a simple and effective way to keep your hair healthy.

Viviscal is "Must Have" for Reese Witherspoon

Actress Reese Witherspoon recently admitted one of her beauty secrets - Viviscal, calling the hair vitamin a "must have," and credits it for keeping her hair healthy and shiny.

Reese isn't the only celebrity using Viviscal. Finola Hughes recently announced she too uses Viviscal to help fight early signs of balding. And she isn't alone, nearly 40 million women in America are suffering from hair loss or thinning, a process that can be particularly devastating for females.

While there are numerous over the counter options out there, I prefer Viviscal Pro, a vitamin supplement, which can only be prescribed by a physician.
