David Letterman Sports Bald Head, Big Beard in Retirement

It isn't uncommon for celebrities to change up their look, especially following a long run as a TV character, or a recurring movie role. This helps them distance themselves from the character.

It has been less than a year since David Letterman passed the late-night torch, but he wasted no time in reinventing his image. The star was recently photographed looking nearly unrecognizable with a full beard and bald head.

In past interviews, Letterman hinted that a beard was part of his retirement plan, saying,"I had to shave every day — every day — for 33 years," he said. "And even before that when I was working on local TV. And I just thought, the first thing I will do when I am not on TV is stop shaving."

Perhaps more surprising than the beard, is seeing Letterman completely bald.

While there are lots of ways to help those suffering from hair loss - good for Letterman for taking a more lax approach to grooming in his retirement!

Hollywood scruff is often credited for the rise in beard transplants, but is there more to this trend than just looking good? There is an interesting article in The Hollywood Reporter that looks at the psychology behind the Hollywood beard, using David Letterman, John Hamm, Ben Affleck and a host of other Hollywood stars as subjects.

Something 'Unusual' About Tom Jones?

During a visit with David Letterman last month Tom Jones proved he still has the voice - but what most people were left singing about was Jones' fuller, thicker hair.

Jones famously decided to stop dyeing his hair two years ago, saying he was ready to age naturally. But this new 'do' suggests that while he might have accepted his gray hair, he isn't quite ready to embrace hair loss

Jones has yet to comment on the speculation, but from looking at the pictures, it appears he's embraced hair restoration treatment. It's possible he's using a multi-therapy approach, such as Propecia and Rogaine, and he might also have undergone hair transplant surgery.
