Entourage the Movie - Hair Line Mashup

Eleven years after the hit series debuted on HBO, "Entourage" is finally getting its own role on the big screen this summer. Vince, E, Turtle were all young guys when the series began - but after more than a decade since the premiere, how well are their hair lines holding up?

Vince - i.e., Adrian Grenier (38)

It'd be hard to complain about Adrian's hair. So far, the 38-year old actor still has what appears to be a full and healthy hair line, and doesn't show any signs of recession yet.

E - i.e., Kevin Connolly (41)

Kevin's hair line, on the other hand, shows clear signs of temporal recession. But altogether, it's still a fairly strong hair line.

Turtle - i.e., Jerry Ferrara (35)

Jerry has another solid hair line. We can just see what may be the beginning of temporal recession, but that also occurs as the hair line matures.

But let's not forget about the other two stars - Johnny Drama and Ari Gold. Both are much older than their co-stars, but their hair lines are in remarkably good shape 11 years later.

Johnny Drama - i.e., Kevin Dillon (49)

Dillon's hair line has clearly recessed at the top and along the temporal regions, but for his age it's in great shape. There's a good chance he's been using a multi-therapy regimen to keep it that way - and more than likely that includes finasteride and minoxidil.

Ari Gold - i.e., Jeremy Piven (49)

Piven's hair loss has been well documented and previous reports have shown a long linear scar at the back of his head - followed by a miraculous revival of his hair line. It's clear he's had hair transplant surgery, but unfortunately Piven must have opted for the old-fashioned "strip harvest" hair transplant, which leaves that noticeable scar at the back of the head. It's strange that a movie star who's always in the spotlight wouldn't opt for the modern micro-surgical procedure known as FUE, which leaves no visible scar at all.

Jeremy Piven is on a Roll - Thanks to His Hair

Would Jeremy Piven be the star he is today had he not (presumably) undergone hair transplant surgery at some point in the late 1990s or early 2000s?

Obviously, Mr. Piven is an incredibly talented actor - he's won three Emmy Awards, one Golden Globe and received 13 additional nominations. However, does anyone remember the young, bald Piven from The Larry Sanders Show or his small role in Heat? Piven's big break didn't come until 2004 with the HBO series Entourage, and by then he had a much fuller head of hair. It's hard to imagine Piven pulling off the uber-confident Ari Gold with the despairing hairline he had just a few years earlier.

It seems quite clear that Piven underwent hair transplantation - after all, this photo emerged in 2010, which seems to show a very noticeable lateral scar line which is typical of a particular type of outdated hair transplant surgery known as strip-harvest. This procedure has since been replaced by the scar-less, no scalpel, no stitch NeoGraft FUE.

At 49 years old, Piven's hair is looking better than ever. So is his career. He just started season three of the critically acclaimed ITV/PBS series Mr. Selfridge and he'll also be returning in his award-winning role as Ari Gold in Entourage when the film version hits theaters this summer.

Game 6 Photos Show LeBron James Had a Hair Transplant

It's been rumored for some time that the Miami Heat's LeBron James underwent a hair transplant - but these photos, taken at Game 6 of the NBA Finals in the American Airlines Arena by Bauman Medical Group surgical technician Felipe Reynoso, show strong evidence that LeBron has undergone hair transplantation.

This is one of the rare times LeBron has appeared on court without his customary headband.

If you look at the two photos above, you'll see a large linear horizontal scar around the back of the scalp. From this vantage point, the long scar was easily visible from behind and from the right - approximately 4 mm in width. This is a tell-tale sign of a linear or "strip" harvest from a hair transplant surgery. Strip harvesting is an older method (some would say "outdated" too) of performing a hair transplant, in which a long linear strip is removed from the back of the scalp and then the follicles are dissected from this tissue sample and implanted into the bald areas of the scalp.

It's not entirely clear how long ago the procedure was performed, although I'd venture to say it's probably over a year old. It's also unclear why LeBron would have opted for this older hair transplant method - when a more advanced procedure known as NeoGraft FUE (no scalpel/no stitch) is now widely available and doesn't leave a linear scar, since the follicular units are harvested individually. UK footballer Wayne Rooney made his FUE-style hair transplant famous by tweeting out his post-op pictures and announced his recent "top-up" procedure, which LeBron might also be in need of, judging from the still-receded hairline.

LeBron's case is similar to Jeremy Piven, who was spotted with a long linear 'strip harvest' scar at the back of the head in 2010.

Joel McHale - Hair Transplant

The E! network's witty Joel McHale is great at dishing up the latest celebrity news and rumors - but he's also good at something else:  regrowing hair.

After sorting through a number of photos of Joel - both now and in the past - it's clear to me that the comedian has had hair transplantation to fill out his 'do.' I think he looks good. As I'm not aware of any linear scarring at the back of his head (unlike the unfortunate Jeremy Piven), it's probably safe to say he went for a follicular-unit extraction, or FUE, hair transplant surgery. I call this the "Cadillac of hair transplants" - particularly when it's combined with the NeoGraft device.

Joel's fuller hairline looks great, and makes him look years younger. (See the older picture below if you don't believe me.)

I wish more male stars would follow in his path.
